Are You Hydrated Enough?

Are You Hydrated Enough?

Are you hydrated enough? With winters around the corner do not overlook the importance of water. Water is the most essential nutrient for the body, the human body is composed of 60% water.

Symptoms of less Water Intake

Do a quick check on this index, do you experience any of these symptoms.

  • Frequent Headaches
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Lack of focus
  • Dizziness
  • Dark, strong-smelling urine

If you have any of the above symptoms it is important to drink at least 8 glass of water every day. Drinking water can be boring sometimes. You can spruce up water intake by infusing water with cucumber, berries, lime, orange or any citrus fruits, mint and other herbs and spices like clove, cardamom or cinnamon.

Keep Hydrating Your Body

Our body constantly loses water, through skin evaporation, urine, stool, sweat. We must drink enough water to maintain the balance of fluids in the body. The body needs water in all its cells organs to maintain the body temperature. The functions of these bodily fluids include:

  • digestion
  • absorption
  • circulation
  • creation of saliva
  • transportation of nutrients
  • and maintenance of body temperature

How much Water does the Body Need?

Water is involved in all of our bodily functions, in order to ensure everything runs smoothly it is important to stay hydrated! For males, about 13 eight ounce cups of water (roughly 6 sixteen ounce water bottle) will do the trick, and for females, about 9 cups (about 4.5 sixteen ounce water bottle), depending on your lifestyle.

Eat your water: Stay Hydrated

Food can provide some of this essential fluid with vital nutrients, especially fruits and veggies, some of which are mostly water, such as watermelon, cucumber, oranges, celery, bell pepper and tomatoes (another reason to eat your fruits and veggies!)

Add on benefits of drinking water:

  • Helps to lose weight
  • Healthy Skin
  • Flushes toxins
  • Boost Energy ( Also check http://www.natural-cure.org/health-and-wellness/fatigue-a-common-syndrome-in-women/ )
  • Prevents Constipation
  • Aids digestion ( but do not drink water immediately after your meal, wait for at least 1hour)
  • It stops the confusion between hunger and thirst

Sports drinks

We all have a natural tendency to grab a sports drink on a hot sizzling day. But remember they aren’t the best drink to go for when we are just hanging around. These drinks contain a considerable amount of added sugar, so think about diluting the drink with half sports drink and half water. They are definitely Not the best friend for kidneys!.

Water is the best drink for a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Nothing gives us the satisfaction of drinking ice cold water on a hot summer day when we are thirsty. Even if we opt to have sugar drinks like cola, sugar will make us more thirsty and we will be consuming more sugary drinks. Our body needs only two kind of beverages- water when thirsty, and milk for stronger bones and teeth.  Keeping this in mind let us ensure that we are hydrated at all times.
