Constipation is a very unhealthy and unpleasant feeling that makes our system rot. The inability to pass stool more than three times a week or stretching upto a month is a case of chronic constipation. Constipation is strain in passing stool which may causes lower blood circulation resulting in clotting of blood. This in some cases is a vital cause of heart attack. Most of the heart attacks occur during morning hours at the time of passing the stool.
Constipation is a serious ailment as the excreta must be expelled from the body. It leads to piles, haemorrhoids, ulcers, abdominal pain, anal fissures and fistula. Don’t reach for over the counter laxatives try some home remedy and remain healthy.
Prune
Prune is an instant remedy for constipation within 4-5 hours there is bowel movement.
Prune fruit or prune juice works as a natural laxative because it has high amount of fiber content in it. It also contains sorbitol.
Lemon
Lemon juice are a good treatment for constipation as it stimulates the digestive system and Add half lemon juice to a glass of warm water mix a teaspoon honey in it and drink it the first thing in the morning in empty stomach, it moves the bowel and it the simplest and most effective treatment of constipation.
Follow this remedy daily and expect results within a few days.
Fennel
Fennel seeds are excellent digestive and equally effective in controlling indigestion, bloating, constipation and irritable bowel syndrome as they encourage smooth muscle movement in the digestive tract.
The fennel seeds are often taken after a meal or can mix roasted fennel seed powder and mix it in a glass of water and drink it.
Figs
Figs are very high in fiber and fibrous food act as a natural laxative.
Fresh figs are available and can be eaten with their skin as the skin contains most of the fiber and calcium. People with chronic constipation should have fig everyday in the morning. If fresh fig is not available dried figs soaked in water for three hours should be used.Apart from its laxative property it is high in iron, magnesium, potassium.
Castor Oil
Being a stimulant laxative, Castor oil is a laxative and stimulates the intestine and improves the bowel movement.
Have one to two teaspoons of castor oil on an empty stomach within few hours there will be improvement.
Though it is not recommended for a long period as it may cause side effects.
Honey
Honey is one of the beneficial mild laxative to relieve constipation.
One can add honey to their daily meal and consume two teaspoons of honey everyday.
Add tablespoon of honey to a glass of warm water and half lemon juice and drink it every morning empty stomach.
Flax Seed
Flax seeds have rich medicinal properties with tons of fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. The laxative property of flaxseeds is very useful in curing mild to very serious constipation.
Flaxseed or flaxseed powder can be mixed with cereal breakfast or dough or any preparation and it is very healthy to have it in daily meal.
Alternatively mix one tablespoon of flaxseed in a glass of water soak it for three hours. Drink the water daily before going to bed.It will improve bowel movement in the morning.
Grapes
Grapes have insoluble fiber that helps in regular bowel movement.
A small bowl of grapes every day would be helpful. If fresh grapes are not available, then dried grapes or raisins soaked in water or boiled with milk is very healthy and acts as laxative.
Spinach
Spinach is high on nutrition and very good for digestive tract especially for constipation. It acts like a cleanser for the intestinal tract.
Spinach in any form raw or cooked can be easily included in everyday meal to get rid of constipation.
Blackstrap molasses
Molasses is one of the best natural laxatives to cure constipation.
Water and Fiber
Most often, the cause of constipation is lack of fiber in the diet. Fiber is a kind of material that binds to water in the intestine. This adds volume to the stool and the water softens the stool.
Some general tips.
- High-fiber foods should be made part of the meal.Some high fibre foods are beans, potatoes, carrots, brown rice, prunes, wheat germ, fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, broccoli, peas, etc.
- Those suffering from constipation, it is very important to drink enough fluids. Drink at least
- 8-10 glasses of water daily.
- Fresh vegetable juice and fruit juice should be taken everyday.
- Alcohol and caffeine should be avoided as both cause dehydration.
- As molasses contains high calories, you must not follow these remedies on a daily basis.
A simple change in lifestyle and diet can prevent big trouble.
