diabetes

The naturopathy treatment of diabetes is to reduce high level of glucose in the blood and to bring it under control to ensure the overall well being of the patient in a natural way.

Diabetes is known as an incurable disease which once diagnosed remains lifelong. It is basically a metabolic disorder in the digestive system and affects the function of liver. Diabetes is not a life threatening disease. It is very much possible with naturopathic treatment for the patient to live a normal and healthy life.

In diabetes, quality or the quantity of insulin produced is less and that leads to increase in glucose level in the blood. But the good news is that it can be easily brought under control by a change in lifestyle and regulated diet. It is important for diabetic people to know that drugs and medicines are not the only remedy and it will not help unless the patient leads and follows a strict observance of a regulated life style. This debilitating disease can be effectively handled by making some lifestyle changes.

Some of the modus operandi of Naturopathic Treatment of Diabetes or Blood Sugar

Fasting and Diet therapy

Fasting therapy considered one of the most dependable curative and best cleansing treatment used in Naturopathy. Different fasting therapies is recommended for the diabetic patients under the expert guidance of a Naturopathic physician. The patient is physically and mentally prepared to undergo fasting. Fasting on water or limited supply of coconut water and sometimes on fruits or sometime completely which is called dry fasting..

Naturopathy believes that the root cause of all illness or disease is the accumulation of waste and toxins in the body which results from overeating, drugs and medicines. The majority of people due to sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise, accumulate surplus fat which clogs the digestive system with impurities or toxins. In naturopathy treatment the food intake is reduced and the excretory organs such as the bowels, kidneys, skin and lungs are allowed to purge, the impurities and toxins from the system. Thus, fasting therapy accelerates the process of purification and cleansing of the system and is an effective method of cure.

Best Diet for Diabetes Patient

An alkaline diet rich in complex carbohydrate and fiber and low fat is recommended because their slow absorption helps to avoid a rapid rise in blood glucose. A well balanced diet includes:

Fruits and Vegetables

Include raw foods as they are rich in essential enzymes, which increases the metabolism and are a good source of vitamins and minerals which are essential for diabetics.

Green leafy vegetables are advisable. Vegetables such as potatoes, beet root, sweet potatoes, yam, tapioca, broad beans, double beans should be taken very moderately.

Avoid cooked starchy food, as it gets quickly absorbed in the system and raises the sugar level in the body. In Fruits-avoid banana, custard apple, black grapes, dates and mangoes.

Fig leaves are known to have rich anti diabetic properties. An easy to include in everyday routine is to boil the fig leaves in filtered water and take it like tea in the morning

Black seed or Kilongji widely used in Indian cooking and pickles is known to be loaded with miraculous cure properties .

Fenugreek or Methi powder is also recommended in moderate quantity, can be included in daily meals.

Bitter Melon contains insulin like properties which helps in lowering of blood sugar and works wonders in the treatment of diabetes. It should be taken first thing in the morning in empty stomach either as melon juice or as powder of the seed.

The juices of Jamun, Bitter gourd, cucumber and bottle gourd are also helpful and a daily dose of vitamin C helps normalize sugar levels.

Naturopathy also adopts the following methodology in the treatment of diabetes.

Hydrotherapy drastically improves the metabolic rate and brings the sugar level under check. In this warm water enema is given which cleanses and detoxify the body of accumulated toxins. Some other treatments include Hip bath, immersion bath, Foot and Arm bath, steam bath, abdomen pack etc.

Mud Therapy synchronizes the imbalance of the digestive system with the endocrinal organs, which being underutilized in diabetic patients leads to toxins accumulation.

Mud bath is one of the best method to eliminate the toxins from the body. In this mud pack is applied on the abdomen which increases the blood circulation, relieves inner congestion and eliminates morbid toxins from the body.

Massage Therapy is considered a passive exercise which improves the activities of circulatory and nervous system. It relaxes the muscle and also reduces stress.

Yoga and Pranayam are an integral part of Naturopathy Treatment

Yoga Therapy

Along with well balanced diet and nature cure treatment, Yoga is highly effective in controlling the blood sugar level. Asanas, specifically useful to improve functions of the liver, digestive system and pancreas are beneficial in treating diabetes.

Pranayama

Anulom-Vilom, Ujjayi, Bharamari , Bhastrika and kaplbhati Pranayama are highly effective

Stress increases the body’s production of adrenalin, which raises the blood sugar level. Reducing stress through yoga and pranayam helps restore regular, healthy sleeping pattern , sound sleep eases the stress and brings blood sugar level in control, as stress is closely associated with the rise in insulin.
