Wonders of Lemon

Wonders of Lemon

Lemon boosts the immunity of the body

Lemon is an excellent source of vitamin C which is one of the foremost pillars of our immune system. It is a water-soluble nutrient that acts as an antioxidant preventing damage to our cells. Stress increases the demands of our body. All the systems of the body go into an accelerated mode of working when we’re under pressure. Vitamin C is therefore, depleted at a faster rate under stress. Lemons, and other citrus fruits like orange, grapes, kiwi helps in keeping these levels at par. Lemons are rich in flavonoid compounds that are antioxidants having anti-cancer and antibiotic properties.

Great source of Potassium

Lemons are a good source of potassium. Potassium is an electrolyte necessary for all the cells to work optimally, and especially for conducting electrical charges in the body. It is beneficial in particular to heart health, brain and nerve function, as well as muscle health.

Lemon is a Great Detox

Lemon juice is great for removing toxins from our digestive tract. Taking lemon juice in water or over a salad can relieve symptoms of heartburn, bloating and indigestion. A fresh glass of lemon juice with water in the morning is a great liver detox.

Aids in liver function

We are exposed to many toxins every day in our lives, due to the pollution in the air and even the chemicals in our cleaners, etc. The liver works really hard to detoxify the body of these harsh chemicals and it works to process nutrients.

Cleanses your breath and protects gums

Having toothaches and gingivitis? Well, rinse your mouth with lemon water after brushing. The acid in the lemon will kill bad bacteria as well as dissolve plaque and strengthen your gums. But, be careful to brush first so that the toothpaste will protect your enamel from erosion from the Ascorbic acid of the lemon.

Keeps your skin free of acne and wrinkles

Vitamin C in lemons helps with collagen regeneration in the skin, which decreases blemishes and wrinkles. When applied directly onto the skin, it aids in the reduction of scars and age spots caused by free radicals. Lemons will cleanse from within, bringing a natural glow to your skin.

Lose weight with lemons

Lemons act as a digestive agent, boosting your metabolism to a great extent by flushing our system, along with proper diet and exercise regular intake of lemon juice aids weight loss.

Controls inflammation

Lemon juice has anti-inflammatory properties that can kill different kinds of fungi, viruses, and bacteria in the body. The citric acid in the lemon juice is acidic but it turns alkaline when lemon water is metabolized in the body. A high acid diet causes a lot of inflammation in the body and is the cause of many diseases and widespread pain in the body. Lemons remove many different kinds of acids, including uric acid.

Boosts energy

After a full night’s rest, our body is dehydrated in the morning. Lemon water can be a purifying energy source. Since it oxygenates and hydrates the body, it makes you feel super-charged. This property also helps in reducing anxiety and depression. The wonderful aroma of lemons has a calming effect on our nervous system.

Replaces the need for caffeine

Lemons are known as super anionic food. The natural digestive enzymes, saliva, and stomach acid are all anionic (meaning negatively charged), whereas most of the foods we eat are cationic (meaning positively charged). Therefore, starting your day with warm lemon water first thing in the morning kick starts your metabolism, as well as hydrates your body.

Caffeine, on the other hand, depletes the water from the body, as well as nutrients/electrolytes like sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. That is why caffeine apparently boosts you up but leaves you drained.

Fights viral infections

Lemons naturally have infection-fighting properties due to its high vitamin C content and anti-oxidants. Drink warm lemon water to help ward off future infections as well as benefit any existing ones.
